This is the scenario:
I am do log shipping from one server to another. I have 9 databases
that I am shipping. 8 of them work flawlessly. I have one that for
some reason either always goes into a Suspect state or into a Loading
state. It just stays there until I do a manual restore. I have
created all of the store procedures exactly the same. The weird thing
is that I can do a manual restore of the exact same file that the
store procedure is trying to restore and it does it perfectly. The
only difference between this database and the others is the size. It
is a little over 6 gig versus 3 gig or less on the others.
I am stumped and not quite sure what to do. It is almost like the
stored procedure is either timing out or the job is advancing to the
next step before the restore is complete. Oh, one other thing, the
job is showing a status of completed successfully. The following is
the stored procedure I am using to restore the database:
CREATE PROCEDURE Restore_Database_W3Data_Backups AS
RESTORE DATABASE W3Data
FROM DISK = 'e:\sqlbackups\W3Data\W3Data.bak'
WITH
REPLACE,
STANDBY = 'e:\sqlbackups\W3Data\undo_W3Data.ldf',
MOVE 'w3data_dat' TO 'E:\SQL Data\MSSQL\Data\w3data_data.mdf',
MOVE 'w3data_log' TO 'E:\SQL Data\MSSQL\Data\w3data_log.ldf'
WAITFOR DELAY '00:00:05'
EXEC sp_dboption 'W3Data', 'single user', true
GO
Does Anyone have any ideas?
TIA!

Hi
The restore fails if you run out of disk space on the Undo drive. How much
free space do you have on E:?

database failure to restore from NT backup
One of our customers had a problem with SQL Server 7. We have instigated a
work around, but they want to know what the root cause was.
Problem description
It seems that they had disk problems, then wanted to restore the database fr

services & doing a cold NT backup to tape.
Error Details
The server lost a disc (one of five from RAID5 array). After it was fixed,

DavidDavid,
This scenario is a typical case why you should do backup using SQL Server BA
CKUP command instead of just
picking up the physical files. In general, it should work assuming that you
indeed get a consistent snapshot
of all files that constitutes a database. IMO, your best bet is to open a ca
se with MS Support for this.

This scenario is a typical case why you should do backup using SQL Server BACKUP command instead of just

Database Diagram
Hi,
I created a database with diagram in ServerA. After that I backup and
restore this database in ServerB. I try to open the database diagram in
ServerB, but it show empty. Is there anyone know why like that?
Thanks,
KennyKenny
If I remember well a diagram is stored in dtproperties system table. Try
transfer the table into the new server.

Another way is to detach the database from one server, copy it to the new
one, then attach the database to the new server

Use the below link to transfer diagrams between servers.
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;Q320125
It is just copying the contents of dtproperties from source server to
destination as pointed by Uri. Since you the restored the same database, the
contents will be already there in destination.
Probably you have to delete the contents before you folow the link mentioned
above.
Thanks

Use the below link to transfer diagrams between servers.
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;Q320125
It is just copying the contents of dtproperties from source server to
destination as pointed by Uri. Since you the restored the same database, the
contents will be already there in destination.
Probably you have to delete the contents before you folow the link mentioned
above.
Thanks

Database could not be removed
We are running SQL Server 2000 Ent SP4 on Windows Server 2003 Ent SP1. Now we
are facing a strange case where when we tried to restore and overwrite a
database, it always say database is in use and cannot be overwritten. I have
tried to detach and even delete it but everytime it just said the database is
in use and refused to give up. I have checked and make sure no users and
connections are make to the said database. Eventually I have to resort to
restarting the SQL service to remove this database.
Is there a way to remove or overwrite a database without restarting the SQL
service? Are you sure YOU are not in the database when you are trying to restore or
detach?
If you run the sp_lock procedure, look for DB locks in the database you are
trying to remove. There will then be a spid, which can let you determine who
is in the database.
